Angela’s Social Impact Initiative:

As Miss Chinese Boston 2024, I would like to:

  • Create educational programs as a facilitator within various Boston institutions for Chinese immigrant youth by advocating equitable solutions for the working-class

  • Encourage Asian American youth to believe beyond expectations, embrace their individuality, and live vibrant lives by reviving radical histories & envisioning progressive futures

  • Focus on economic shifts, particularly around labor & Chinese communities, in order to facilitate networks of support, mutual aid and resistance, emphasizing the dualistic importance of social programming & patience in new and unexpected situations for families

To be a part of the Chinese diaspora in the US, are constant reminders of how family members like mine lost their home, where there is an uncanny distance from a nation that had changed so much since their childhoods. It is yearning, for Mama’s cooking and Baba’s laugh. Chinese in the US are constant reminders of building after being displaced and dispossessed from a nation of our ethnic background. As a Chinese-American daughter, it is constantly trying to hold our community together, even if there are unanswered questions or blurry memories of what was lost, the power comes from seeing my community facilitate mutual trust and prospering.
It relates to the mission statement of becoming active actors in encouraging more involvement in America’s social processes as the population. In order to promote our heritage and identity through various material scopes like economically, socially, politically, etc, I remain steadfast that to be Chinese is to recognize where I come from, to create life worlds where our community members, often seen as disenfranchised, displaced, and invisibilized bodies, are able to be autonomous figures who are able to build from the bottom up in order for all people to thrive.

Amid racial tensions from the COVID-19 pandemic, she strives to revive forgotten radical histories and envision progressive futures for Chinatown’s youth and elderly.
